About this task

Role and arrangement
- Join an independent-contractor team to provide written legal translation, editing and proofreading from English into your native target language. Assignments are offered as needed, according to availability.
- Applicants must be based in the United States.

- Target languages sought include Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Cebuano, Chamorro, Dutch, Estonian, Fulani, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hmong, Hungarian, Igbo, Ilocano, Ilonggo, Indonesian, Italian, Karen, Kikuyu, Kinyarwanda, Kurdish, Latvian, Lingala, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Marathi, Marshallese, Mongolian, Nepali, Oromo, Palauan, Rohingya, Rundi, Shona, Sinhalese, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Tajik, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish, Turkmen, Twi, Uzbek, Wolof, Yoruba, Zulu, Chuukese, Czech, Ewe, Finnish, Georgian, Hakha Chin, Khmu, Kyrgyz, Luganda, Mandinka, Norwegian, Soninke, Tongan, Dinka, Kayah, Kosrean, Kunama, Iu Mien, Navajo, Nuer, Pohnpeian, Runyoro, Sangho and Tibetan. Requirements
- Hold ATA or DSHS LTC certification in the relevant language pair.
- Demonstrate expertise in legal terminology, judicial procedures and court forms, with two years of experience providing written translations to U.S. state courts and judicial offices.
- Be fluent in English and the target language, and adhere to the ATA Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
- Be able to use modern computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools; XTM access is provided.
- Work with PC and Mac formats, including Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, fillable PDFs, rich text and XML/text blocks. Have Adobe Acrobat and know how to use its PDF markup tools.
- Have a reliable computer and a dedicated, secure, high-speed internet connection.

Responsibilities
- Produce human-written translations using a CAT tool. Machine or AI translation is prohibited.
- Follow project instructions, glossaries and reference materials; preserve the source’s meaning, style and register in culturally appropriate target-language text.
- Check translation quality before delivery, edit and proofread as needed, and meet project deadlines and budgets.
- Review formatted target-language PDFs for accuracy and mark corrections using Adobe Acrobat.
- Communicate promptly with the project team, participate in quality-management processes such as corrective action reports and root cause analyses, and protect sensitive information, including PHI, PII and SBU.
- Follow the applicable master service agreement and vendor guide. Quick responses and the ability to accommodate short-turnaround projects are expected; evening or weekend availability is a plus.
