About this task
Location: San Francisco, CA
Employment: Freelance contractor; must reside in the U.S.
Pay range: $55.00-$120.00 per hour.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services in legal and law enforcement settings.
- Interpret accurately while preserving the original tone, register and meaning.
- Use legal terminology and adhere to the professional code of ethics.
Requirements:
- Fluency in English and at least one of the following: Amharic, Arabic, Azeri, Bahasa, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Mandarin, Norwegian, Spanish or Wolof.
- At least four years of professional interpreting experience, including court interpreting.
- Strong command of legal, formal and diplomatic vocabulary, including regionalisms and slang.
- U.S. citizenship (dual citizenship accepted), a bachelor’s degree and willingness to undergo a U.S. government background check.
Preferred qualifications:
- Court interpreter certification, specialized interpreting training, an existing security clearance or a passing result on a U.S. government interpreting exam or equivalent (ILR 3 or higher).
