About this task
Contract responsibilities:
- Provide accurate consecutive interpretation between English and American Sign Language during accepted onsite assignments in the Dayton metropolitan area; provide telephone or video interpretation when applicable.
- Follow interpreter protocols, professional standards, client requirements, and rules on ethics, confidentiality, privacy, security and safety.
- Interact professionally with clients and other participants, and maintain the language proficiency and subject-matter knowledge needed for assignments.
Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old and proficient in English and American Sign Language.
- Hold at least one ASL credential: RID certification, an EIPA score of 3.7 or higher, or BEI certification. Hold a state interpreting license where applicable.
- Have at least one year of professional interpreting experience. Medical, legal, community, educational or social-services experience and relevant training or credentials are applicable.
- Have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent education or experience where required by client credentialing standards; possess basic computer skills and reliable transportation to accepted onsite assignments.
- Meet assignment-specific health, immunization, background, security, fingerprinting or drug-screening requirements where applicable, and agree to confidentiality and professional ethics requirements.
Independent contractor terms:
- Contractors may accept or decline assignments; no minimum hours or number of assignments is guaranteed. They may work for other organizations subject to confidentiality, security and conflict-of-interest requirements.
