About this task
- Remote English-Spanish consecutive interpretation role in Latin America, initially focused on over-the-phone interpretation (OPI), with a potential progression to video remote interpretation (VRI).
- Interpret primarily in medical settings, as well as in social services and financial contexts.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 6–12 months of professional remote medical interpretation experience.
- C1 English proficiency, supported by a valid EF SET (4-Skill), TOEFL, or CAE certification.
- Proof of medical interpreter knowledge issued within the last 12 months. Listed assessments include an ALTA Spanish fluency score of at least 9 or a LanguageStat (PICSI) passing score of 75–80%.
- Strong command of medical and customer service terminology.
- Current HIPAA and FWA certifications, or willingness to obtain them; willingness to complete a standard background check by email.
Technical and Workspace Requirements
- A hardwired Ethernet connection directly to the router; Wi-Fi is not permitted.
- A high-quality noise-canceling USB headset; a computer running at least Windows 10 with 4GB RAM; and the latest version of Chrome, Safari, or Edge.
- A dedicated, quiet, HIPAA-compliant workspace.
Compensation and Schedule
- Paid per interpreted minute. Set working hours based on availability, subject to a minimum weekly hour requirement.
- Opportunity to progress from OPI to VRI, which offers a higher per-minute rate, and potentially join the core staff.
