Burmese Over-the-Phone Interpreter

About this task

Work arrangement and compensation:
- Remote telephone interpretation using secure, USCIS-approved platforms, including scheduled and urgent assignments.

Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time Burmese–English telephone interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
- Interpret accurately and impartially in immigration, asylum, and legal contexts while maintaining confidentiality and following USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
- Handle scheduled and urgent requests and participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality-assurance audits.

Qualifications:
- Native or near-native fluency in Burmese and English.
- At least two years of professional interpreting experience; immigration, refugee or asylum, medical, or government experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness, with effective telephone communication and accuracy under pressure.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and eligibility for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance. Community, medical, court, or ATA interpreting credentials are preferred.
