American Sign Language Interpreter — West Palm Beach, FL

About this task

Position: In-person American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter in the West Palm Beach, FL area. Contract, freelance, or part-time work as needed, supporting communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing clients in medical, educational, government, and community settings.

Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, culturally appropriate ASL interpretation and facilitate effective communication.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
- Arrive prepared and on time for assignments; adapt interpreting style to medical, legal, educational, and business settings.
- Complete required post-assignment documentation and reporting.

Requirements:
- Fluency in ASL and English, knowledge of Deaf culture, and at least one to two years of professional interpreting experience.
- RID certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent) preferred. Medical, legal, or educational interpreting experience and NIC or higher are also preferred.
- Ability to pass a background check for applicable assignments; short-notice availability preferred.

Compensation and benefits:
- Posting states $50.00–$60.00 per hour; it also cites a typical market range of $40–$75 per hour depending on credentials and assignment. Travel reimbursement may be available for certain assignments.
