Target Language Specialists

Languages:
- Kanuri; Hassaniyya, Libyan and Moroccan (Darija) Arabic; and Mali-dialect Fulani (Fulfulde).

Location and engagement:
- Remote, independent-contractor role reporting to a Project Manager.
- Approximately 10–20 hours per week. Project runs from May to October 2026, with possible extensions. Contractors provide their own equipment and workspace.
- Pay: $0.10–$0.20 per word of translation; $0.05 per word of monolingual content.

Responsibilities:
- Source and select authentic written and spoken materials in the target language.
- Transcribe audio recordings, broadcasts and interviews; translate target-language materials into English.
- Review translations for accuracy, consistency and clarity; meet project specifications and deadlines, and document sources and decisions.

Minimum qualifications:
- At least two years of experience in translation, transcription, teaching, linguistics, corpus development or another language-related field.
- ILR level 3+ or higher in target-language reading and listening, and ILR level 3 or higher in English.
- Ability to work with authentic materials and use Microsoft Office, audio playback or editing tools, and online research.
- Familiarity with regional dialects, country-specific usage and established orthographic conventions.

Preferred qualifications:
- Experience transcribing audio, finding content in low-resource languages or dialects, and translating written and spoken discourse.
