About this task
Role
Run the day-to-day thought leadership, content operations, and social presence. Interview founders, leaders, customers, and partners, and turn those conversations into writing people read and share. Own the content calendar and maintain consistent publishing at scale. Initially work to a strategy established with the Head of Media, with the opportunity to grow toward owning that strategy. There is also an opportunity to pitch and write for the organization's print and digital magazine.
Responsibilities
- Interview founders, leadership, customers, and partners, and turn those conversations into essays, posts, and stories.
- Ghostwrite for leadership on LinkedIn and X, adapting to each person's voice.
- Build a rigorous SEO operation for global entity and tax compliance, with the help of AI.
- Write social copy suited to each publishing platform and its readers.
- Maintain the social and content calendar, publishing at scale and on schedule.
- Own the "Doing Business in X" country guides, publishing one each month, digitally first and then in print.
- Propose new editorial formats, including series, explainers, recurring columns, and other creative ideas.
- Use AI to accelerate research, drafting, and repurposing while maintaining strict control of voice, judgment, and accuracy.
- Measure content performance and adjust accordingly.
Requirements
- Earlier-career and experienced writers are both welcome; talent, range, and appetite matter more than years of experience.
- Published work demonstrating clarity, voice, and range.
- A commitment to deep research, rigorous sourcing, and precise, well-crafted prose.
- The ability to learn unfamiliar subjects quickly and explain them clearly, including topics such as transfer pricing.
- Strong interviewing instincts, including curiosity, preparation, and effective follow-up questions.
- An understanding of why some social posts gain traction while others do not.
- Organizational skills to maintain a publishing calendar and meet deadlines.
- Genuine interest in international affairs, business, economics, entrepreneurship, and technology.
- A desire to grow and take on responsibility.
- A conviction in the importance of free markets and global commerce, and the ability to make that case thoughtfully to audiences who may disagree.
Preferred Qualifications
- SEO experience.
- A background in journalism, policy writing, or economics writing.
- An established audience on any platform.
Editorial Standards
- Maintain high standards of quality, rigor, evidence, and craft at every length.
- Avoid generic B2B content, stale company blog posts, formulaic listicles, generic AI-generated SEO guides, and self-promotional announcements.
Reporting and Collaboration
- Report to the Head of Media, who oversees content marketing and the editorial publication.
- Work closely with editorial, design, and marketing teams in a fast-moving environment with high standards.
Location
- Austin is preferred because the Head of Media is based there.
- Seattle, New York City, and San Francisco are also preferred.
- Candidates from all locations will be considered.
