About this task
The role
Build the video operation from the ground up, producing and editing thought-leadership video with the CEO, Head of Operations, and other company leaders. Work with the Head of Media and the editorial and marketing teams to build a recurring show featuring founders, operators, economists, investors, and policymakers discussing how the world trades.
Editorial standards
Produce work that meets a high standard of quality, rigor, and craft. Develop substantive, evidence-backed video that earns attention on X, LinkedIn, and Instagram, rather than conventional corporate videos with talking heads and stock-music beds.
Responsibilities
- Produce video end to end, from booking and recording through editing, captioning, and publishing.
- Develop the show's format, segments, and guest strategy.
- Book guests and build lasting relationships with them, as well as with customers and viewers who gather around the show.
- Turn long conversations into platform-specific short-form video, publishing clips at least twice a week. Every episode should yield a week of clips.
- Write titles, hooks, and captions in collaboration with the writer.
- Ideally, appear on camera as host or co-host where it serves the show.
- Own the editorial calendar and publish at pace.
- Build AI-assisted workflows for transcription, rough cuts, clip selection, captions, and repurposing so a small team can publish like a large one.
- Measure reach, audience growth, and pipeline impact, and adjust accordingly.
Requirements
- A portfolio of published video, ideally including social-first work. Demonstrated work matters more than title history.
- Fluency in professional editing software, with fast turnaround.
- A commitment to craft, including rigorous research and preparation, precise editing, and visually compelling work.
- Taste, judgment, and the ability to explain editorial choices.
- A considered view of new media, including what a16z, TBPN, MTS, and social-first shows do well, where they fall short, and what you would do differently.
- Editorial instinct: recognize a story and distinguish a clip that spreads from one that goes stale.
- The ability to bring people in through on-camera presence, a strong network, or an established community.
- Genuine interest in international affairs, business, economics, entrepreneurship, and technology.
- Share the conviction that free markets and global commerce are necessary for continued growth and economic prosperity, and be willing to make that case thoughtfully to people who disagree.
Preferred qualifications
- A background in journalism, documentary, or podcast production.
- Motion graphics and thumbnail skills.
Working arrangements and location
- Report to the Head of Media and work closely with editorial, design, and marketing teams.
- Own day-to-day editorial and production decisions in a fast-moving environment with high standards.
- Austin is preferred. Seattle, New York City, and San Francisco are also favored, but candidates from all locations will be considered.
