About this task

Position and Work Location
- Face-to-face interpretation, not video or telephone interpretation.
- Must be located in the Central Ohio area.
- Independent contractor position with a flexible, self-selected schedule.

Responsibilities and Scheduling
- Interpret conversations and assist people during medical, social service and other appointments.
- Use English and Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali and/or Urdu language skills to assist people who speak those languages or dialects.
- Manage your assignment schedule and take as many or as few available assignments as you choose.
- Assignments are available 24/7/365, with most requested during business hours.
- Earnings depend on the number of assignments accepted.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Pass a fingerprint-based Federal Criminal Background Check and a 10-panel drug screening, at no cost to the applicant.
- Provide proof of completion of at least 40 hours of accredited interpreter training, such as Bridging the Gap, Access Academy, Court Interpretation, or a certificate or degree in interpretation from an accredited college or university.
- Provide Certification of Bilingual Proficiency, or pay for and complete a third-party Bilingual Fluency Evaluation through an accredited testing and evaluation organization.
- Speak English and Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali and/or Urdu.
- Applicants without previous professional interpretation experience and applicants who speak English as a second language are welcome.
