Face to Face Interpreter – Portuguese

About this task

Responsibilities:
- Provide face-to-face interpretation between English and Portuguese during medical, social service, and other appointments.
- Assist people who need language support using your bilingual skills.

Contract Terms and Scheduling:
- This is a contractor role with a self-selected schedule.
- Assignments are available 24/7/365, although most are requested during business hours.
- Accept as many or as few available assignments as you can. Earnings depend on the assignments you take.
- Interpretation is in person, not by video or telephone.

Requirements:
- Be located in the Central Ohio area.
- Speak English and Portuguese.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
- Pass a fingerprint-based federal criminal background check and a 10-panel drug screening, both at no cost to you.
- Provide proof of completion of at least 40 hours of accredited interpreter training, such as Bridging the Gap, an interpreter academy program, court interpretation training, or an interpretation certificate or degree from an accredited college or university.
- Provide certification of bilingual proficiency, or pay for and complete a third-party bilingual fluency evaluation through an accredited testing and evaluation organization.
- Applicants without previous professional interpretation experience and applicants who speak English as a second language are welcome.
