Assistant Professor in Translation Studies

About this task

The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Translation Studies, beginning in Fall 2027, subject to budgetary approval. The position is based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and teach in translation studies, particularly translation technology.
- Contribute to the MA in Translation and support undergraduate courses.
- Develop innovative courses, laboratories, partnerships, or research initiatives connecting translation, language technologies, and the humanities.

Requirements:
- A Ph. D. in Translation Studies, Interpreting Studies, Translation Technology, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and English. Instruction is in English; the ability to teach translation courses in both languages is strongly preferred.
- Relevant university-level teaching experience, technological fluency, and familiarity with Western models of higher education.
- A strong commitment to teaching and research.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated or promising teaching and research expertise in AI and large language models for translation and post-editing, computer-assisted translation, translation management systems, terminology management, corpus-based translation studies, localization, digital translation workflows, translation quality assessment, audiovisual translation, or the ethical, pedagogical, and professional implications of emerging language technologies.
