Portuguese (Portugal) Life Science Linguist (Translator, Reviewer, & Editor)

About this task

Remote, project-based position as an independent 1099 contractor translating, reviewing, and editing technical, medical, and regulatory documents from English (USA) into Portuguese (Portugal).

Responsibilities:
- Translate clinical trial protocols, informed consent forms, dossiers, and medical device manuals with technical accuracy.
- Conduct bilingual reviews to identify omissions, mistranslations, and terminology errors.
- Edit and proofread target-language content for style, flow, grammar, cultural appropriateness, and publication or regulatory submission quality.
- Maintain client-specific glossaries and translation memories.
- Follow ISO 17100 and ISO 13485 standards for linguistic quality and risk management.

Requirements:
- Advanced degree (MA, MS, PhD, or MD) in a life science discipline, or a degree in Translation with significant field experience.
- At least five years of professional experience in life science translation or editing.
- Native-level Portuguese and professional-level English.
- Extensive experience with CAT tools such as SDL Trados, memoQ, or Memsource.
- Proven ability to handle high-stakes regulatory content, including EMA/FDA filings or MedDRA/EDQM terminology.
